The answer is yes. In fact, there are actually a lot of them here. Contrary to popular belief, Australia is not entirely a desert. The country does have a wide varying climate. The northern part of the country, for instance, has a milder, more tropical, climate than the hot and dry central regions of the continent. What about the country's southern section? Well this one is definitely where you want to go if you want something a bit cooler.
Actually, Australia's southern part is not entirely cold either. The southeastern areas, including Victoria and parts of New South Wales, has a more humid climate to it, much like that which can be experienced in the Mediterranean. Oddly enough, it was in New South wales where the coldest temperature ever recorded in the country was observed when the thermometers in Charlotte Pass hit 23 degrees below zero in 1994.
But if your are looking for a place that is cold all year round, then you better leave the mainland and head of to the Island of Tasmania. Here, the average temperature is around a cool 21 to 24 degrees Celsius. However, don't be fooled again as the temperature here can actually shoot up to a warmer 30 degrees at times. On the other hand, it can also dip to around three or four degrees above zero at times.
So why bother going to such a cold place? Well, for one, this would definitely be a good break from the hot climate at the mainland. Since many tourists in the country are coming from those places that are not as hot as Australia, Britain for instance, many of them usually can't take all the heat. Thus, they would want to find something a bit more to their tastes. And for those who are still wondering about it until now, this one should be a good spot for you to visit.
Another good reason why you would want to visit the island is because it is the best place in the country for winter activities. Mount Wellington, in the outskirts of the capital of Hobart, has some of the best ski resorts in the island. And if you are looking for indoor winter fun, there are also plenty of ice skating rinks here that you can visit.
